Baby Booties Oscar & Charlie

My sister's friend will be having a baby soon - great reason for knitting little shoes again! The blue ones are called Oscar and knitted with 18 g sock yarn and 2,5 mm needles. Here ("Gast Julia B, 12.05.2009, 18:26") is a better explanation (also in German) how to knit the part on top of the foot. The cream-colored ones named Charlie are a little bigger and knitted with 20 g DK yarn and 4,0 mm needles.

I had three crocheted baby hats in stock so I'll send them along, too :-).

A Sweet Couple - Ein süßes Pärchen

Two totally fresh snapshots, so to say still warm from the camera! This pigeon couple was seen by my hubby several times in the past few days. Actually nothing extraordinary, but the special thing about it: The couple is always sitting closely snuggled together on the same branch. Just a few minutes ago I got them in front of the lens. Sweet, isn't it?!

They are still there!

For a long time I had not seen the gorgeous parrots (ring-necked parakeet to be exact) around here. I was afraid they could have moved on. But a few days ago their funny squeaking was heard again, and yesterday I finally saw them. A brave pioneer was checking out neighbour's birdhouse and how lucky, I could catch him with my camera. But he spotted me qickly and flew away with his fellow who was sitting in the tree nearby. Seconds later a whole flock of them flew squeaking over the scenery behind our house. Maybe at that moment the story of the well-filled birdhouse was spreading among them ;-). Hopefully they will be back soon!

Christmas Poems & Greetings – Weihnachtsgedichte und -grüße

Let Every Day Be Christmas

Christmas is forever, not for just one day,
for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf. The good you do for others is good you do yourself.

(Norman W. Brooks)

A Christmas Wish

I'd like a stocking made for a giant,
And a meeting house full of toys,
Then I'd go out in a happy hunt
For the poor little girls and boys;
Up the street and down the street,
And across and over the town,
I'd search and find them everyone,
Before the sun went down.

(Eugene Field)

Christmas Past

Each Christmas I remember
The ones of long ago;
I see our mantelpiece adorned
With stockings in a row.

Each Christmas finds me dreaming
Of days that used to be,
When we hid presents here and there,
For all the family.

Each Christmas I remember
The fragrance in the air,
Of roasting turkey and mince pies
And cookies everywhere.

Each Christmas finds me longing
For Christmases now past,
And I am back in childhood
As long as memories last.

(Carice Williams)

Christmas Is Here

A good time is coming, I wish it were here,
The very best time in the whole of the year;
I'm counting each day on my fingers and thumbs
the weeks that must pass before Santa Claus comes.

Then when the first snowflakes begin to come down,
And the wind whistles sharp and the branches are brown,
I'll not mind the cold, though my fingers it numbs,
For it brings the time nearer when Santa Claus comes.

There's More to Christmas

There's More to Christmas...
There's more, much more to Christmas
Than candle-light and cheer;
It's the spirit of sweet friendship
That brightens all the year;
It's thoughtfulness and kindness,
It's hope reborn again,
For peace, for understanding
And for goodwill to men!

Mom Is Making Christmas

Cookies baking in the kitchen-
The smell floats through the air;
Mom is making Christmas
with her usual merry flair

The house she gaily decorated,
Each gift she stiched with love,
And we'll gather around the Christmas tree
for an evening of old-fashioned fun

This evening she'll sing a carol for us
With her angel's voice.
Yes, Mom is making Christmas-
A true reason to rejoice

(Vicky A. Luong)

Somehow not only for Christmas
But all the long year through,
The joy that you give to others
Is the joy that comes back to you.

And the more you spend in blessing
The poor and lonely and sad,
The more of your heart's possessing
Returns to make you glad.

(John Greenleaf Whittier)
